A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna State has ordered that a bricklayer, Ahmed Usman, who allegedly defiled a nine-year-old girl, be remanded in a correctional centre pending legal advice.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel did not take Usman’s plea but ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send the same to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution, for legal advice.
The prosecuting officer, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that Usman, who resides in Kawo, Kaduna, committed the crime on December 2, 2021, at his residence.
The prosecutor said Usman lured the girl into his room and defiled her, adding that the police charged him with defilement upon his arrest.
He said Usman’s actions contravened the provisions of Section 207 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017.
The magistrate, who frowned at the high rate of rape of minors, adjourned the case until January 12, 2022.
