An Upper Shari’a Court sitting in Samaru area in Gusau has granted bail to the two dethroned Emirs of Zurmi and Dansadau Atiku Abubakar and Hussaini Umar.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the bail was granted by the presiding judge, Khadi Abdul Hadi, on account of age and health issues.
The two emirs were suspended last year over alleged links with bandits. After submission of the committes reports and a white paper report, the state government dethroned the two Emirs and the district head of Birnin Tsaba, Sulaiman Ibrahim.
Governor Bello Matawalle spokesperson, Ibrahim Bello Zauma confirmed that the two monarch have been released on bail but the court case would continue.
This newspaper leant that the two deposed traditional rulers were arraigned in a Magistrate Courts but their counsels protested that the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case.
The counsel to Emir of Dansadau, Barrister Bello Kwatarkwashi, told this reporter over the phone commended the Shari’a Court for granting the bail application.
He also noted that his client and as detained by the state government for ten months, violating his fundamental human rights, stressing that the legal team will seek redress.
The conditions for bail, 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE learnt, include: suspects most present a prominent Islamic scholar, business man or a senior government civil servant not below the rank of a director as sureties, accused must stay in their Gusau residences, traveling out of the country for medical reasons must notify the court, surrendering their international passports.
