A Magsitrate Court in Kano has ordered the probe of the Managing Directors of the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), and that of Kano State Investment and Property (KSIP), Alhaji Abdulwahab Suleiman and Dr Jibrilla Muhammad.
Magistrate Halima Aliyu Nasir gave the order to the Commissioner of Police.
Both MDs are to be investigated for theft, criminal trespass and mischief filed against them by 188 shop owners at the Bompai New Market.
The order is sequel to a complaint made pursuant to various sections of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kano State by the plaintiffs.
Counsel to the complainants, Abba Hikima, asked the court to take cognizance of the offences committed by the two defendants, who he said conspired to perpetrate the illegalities by mischievously demolishing thousands of his clients’ shops and taking away remnants of the materials used in their construction.
He said investigation carried out revealed that materials like doors and rods removed from the shops had been sold to a Kano-based company, Koguna and Sons Nigeria Ltd.
Justice Sunusi Ma’aji of Kano State High Court had on October 12, 2022, restrained KNUPDA and KSIP from demolishing the shops of the complainants, an order which the state government resisted and failed to obey.
