The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has upheld the election of Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule.
Earlier, a State Governorship Election Tribunal has nullified Governor Sule’s victory, and declared David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party as winner.
A three-member panel of justices, on Thursday, unanimously held that the Nasarawa State Election Petition Tribunal erred in law in concluding that Sule did not win majority of the votes cast in the election.
The appellate court subsequently set aside the judgment of the tribunal and affirmed the re-election of Sule as Governor of Nasarawa State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Sule of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.
But the tribunal led by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi in a split judgment held that based on evidence from the various polling units before the tribunal, Ombugadu had the majority of valid votes at the election.
But Sule appealed the judgment and asked the appellate court to set it aside.
