The African Union (AU) on Friday suspended Guinea, following the recent coup that ousted President Alpha Conde.
Colonel Mamady Doumbouya-led soldiers ousted Conde on Sunday.
Guinea’s suspension by the AU was announced in a statement issued on Friday.
“The AUPC Council in accordance with relevant AU instruments, decides to suspend the Republic of Guinea from all AU activities/decision making bodies,” the statement said.
The continental body also called on the United Nations Security Council to endorse a final decision.
Doumbouya announced the closure of all land and air borders.
He also ordered the Conde’s ministers to submit their official vehicles and banned them from foreign travel.
The coup sparked International condemnations, with the Nigerian Government calling on the coupists to immediately and unconditionally restore constitutional order in Guinea.
