Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) on Friday sealed 561 pharmacies and patent medicine shops for violating ethical standards in Sokoto State.
The affected stores were in ten local government areas of the state and they include Wamakko, Sokoto South, Sokoto North, Kware, Binji, Bodinga, Shagari, Yabo, Tambuwal, Kebbe, Tureta and Dange Shuni.
Registrar of the Council, Pharmacist Elijah Mohammed who disclosed this to newsmen, said 536 premises, comprising 90 pharmacies and 446 patent medicine shops were visited by their enforcement team.
He said 37 of the premises sealed were pharmacies while the remaining 262 were patent medicine shops.
He added that the premises were sealed for offences ranging from failure to renew license and dispensing ethical products without the supervision of a pharmacist; poor storage and sanitary conditions among others.
Represented by the Director, Enforcement, Pharmacist Stephen Esumobi, Mohammed also said two people were arrested during the enforcement.
He advised the public to purchase their medicines and simple household remedies from licensed Pharmacies and Patent Medicine stores.
