The protest against the prevailing hardship in Nigeria has spread to Lagos.
Similar protests took place first in Minna the capital of Niger State, Kano city, Kogi and Osun states last week as economic vulnerable groups poured on the streets crying over the high cost of living in the country.
Lagos market women and youths protested at the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State on Saturday.
They displayed placards with bold inscriptions saying “Baba Tinubu, Nigerians are hungry”, and ‘Tinubu, come and rescue us”, among others.
The removal of the petrol subsidy on May 29 2023, by President Bola Tinubu led to rise in prices of commodities and services in the country.
The steady rise in the prices of petroleum products has concomitantly been reflecting on almost all goods and services almost on daily basis.
Reacting to the situation, Ambassador Kalu Ofon Emmanuel, a public affairs commentator and the Lagos State Chapter President of the International Human Rights Protection Service, Florida, USA, has urged Tinubu to take control over foreign exchange rates, contain insecurity, and initiate programmes to boost food supply.
He advised the Federal Government to show human face, have listening ear and pay attention to the cries of the masses.
In his reaction, former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has tasked the administration of President Tinubu and the All-Progressives Congress (APC) not to allow the growing anger and discontent in the country to reach the point of violence.
He told the president to take preventive measures against the general discontent in the country arising from poverty, high cost of living and the insecurity currently bedevilling the nation to avert an impending disaster.
