Days after he was accused of corruption by 14 justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, has resigned.
The CJN disclosed his resignation in a letter he forwarded to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Justice Muhammad, however, cited health as grounds for his resignation.
The immediate past CJN was appointed after the resignation of Justice Onnoghen, who was indicted and tried for corruption.
The 14 Supreme Court justices, in a memo, accused Mr Muhammad of not giving justices their legitimate entitlements which include denial of their annual foreign training, meant to enhance capacity building for the country’s judicial process, had been blocked by Muhammad.
In his response, Justice Muhammad said he was catering for their needs in accordance to the financial strength of the Supreme Court.
