Construction workers have returned to Damaturu –Maiduguri highway to complete the remaining 45km stretch between Jakana and Auno, Minister of State for Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar D. Aliyu, has said.
21st Century Chronicle reports that on September 26, 2020, Engr Aliyu had said the Chinese contractor, CCECC, would return to the site and complete the project as soon as the insecurity prevalent in the area is tackled.
The minister announced on his official Twitter handle with accompanying pictures that: “We’re glad to announce to the general public, especially those plying the Damaturu-Maiduguri road, that work has resumed at the Jakana-Auno stretch where the work was stopped for some time due to security challenges. We will try our best to deliver in due course.”
The minister said the construction firm has done up to 95 kilometers of the road from Damaturu to Maiduguri.
“Specifically, the remaining stretch of the road which starts from Jakana- Auno – Maiduguri, measuring about 45 kilometers couldn’t be completed because of insecurity,” he said.
Engr Aliyu at that time urged motorists to be patient as all hands are on deck to alleviate the suffering of the motorists by ensuring that the project is completed in due course.
The Damaturu – Maiduguri road is the fifth section of the Kano-Maiduguri road reconstruction and dualisation project being executed by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
