The following are 15 facts you should know about the new Nigeria’s police chief, Tunji Disu.
He was appointed by President Bola Tinubu to replace Kayode Egbetokun, who resigned on Tuesday.
1. Born in Lagos Island, Lagos State, on April 13, 1966.
2. He joined the Police on May 18, 1992.
3. He’s a graduate of English from the University of Lagos in1990.
4. He obtained Masters in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University in 20120.
5. He got another Master’s in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University in 2022.
6. He was a DPO in Ogun, Ondo and Rivers States.
7. Mr Disu was Commander of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS),
8. Second in command of the State Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Rivers State.
9. He was the first-ever commander of the Nigerian Police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan, where he served as its acting Chief of Staff in 2006.
10. He was the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
11. He was appointed Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) on August 2, 2021.
12. The new police chief was promoted to Commissioner of Police in March 2023.
13. He served as Commissioner of Police in Abuja and previously in Rivers State.
14. He completed advanced courses in small arms smuggling (Botswana), internet fraud (Cambridge, UK), forensic investigations, criminal intelligence, and strategic leadership.
15. Mr Disu is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and several other global professional policing and forensic bodies.
