A civil society group, Katsina Budget Awareness Initiative (KBAI) has written to the Katsina state ministry of works, housing and transport demanding for details of a proposed three kilometre road to be constructed in the state at the cost of N962 million.
There has been public outcry since the announcement by the state government to construct the said road that will link Jibia town to Maradi in Niger Republic.
Already it was learnt, a prominent construction company owned by a Katsina-based business mogul has won the bid for the said contract.
KBAI is a registered advocacy partner working on budget transparency, accountability and inclusiveness in the state.
A letter seeking the explanation made available to 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE said the views being expressed by the public over the cost of the road necessitated the need for such clarification.
The secretary of the group, Armayau Abdulhamid, said the demand is also in line with the resolved of the state governor for open, transparent and accountability in governance.
“We hereby write to request the ministry to inform the public details of the contract based on the project’s bill of quantity for better understanding of the public,” he said.
