Not fewer than 60 people have been confirmed dead due to outbreak of cholera in some communities in Katsina state.
The state commissioner of Health, Yakubu Danja, made the disclosure Saturday morning in Katsina.
He said over 1,400 people have been affected by the outbreak so far.
Mr. Danja, however, said the state government is making efforts to address the outbreak.
He said free drugs for the treatment of the disease are being purchased for distribution to hospitals, while health education on prevention and management of the disease is ongoing.
The commissioner called on the general public to adhere to proper hygiene.
“Diarrhea and vomiting are preventable. Adhering to basic protocols on personal hygiene and use of clean water is the surest preventive measure,” he said.
