Zimbabwe’s capital Harare has been hit by a cholera outbreak, with 21 suspected and seven confirmed cases, an official has said.
“We now have 21 suspected cases and seven confirmed cases, and these are mainly coming from the western suburbs,” Prosper Chonzi, the city’s Director of Health Services said.
Chonzi also warned residents to be on high alert for the disease.
Six of the confirmed cases were reported in the high-density areas of the city.
The western suburbs form most of the city’s high-density areas which are generally plagued by shortages of potable water.
The ministry of health said the country has been reporting cholera cases since February.
It said as of Tuesday, 2, 620 cases and 14 deaths as suspected to be related to cholera had been recorded and the laboratory tests also confirmed 132 cases and five deaths. (Xinhua/NAN)
