Seven people have died following cholera outbreak in Garko Ward of Akko local government area of Gombe State.
Several others are also receiving treatment at a Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) in the area.
The state’s Commissioner of Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, who disclosed this on Thursday, said the outbreak was confirmed by the ministry’s Rapid Response Team deployed to the area, which followed a surveillance report of suspected cases of cholera and the death of a two-year-old child in Kalajanga village of Akko.
Dahiru said 32 people have been treated and discharged from the centre in the last seven days, while six were still on admission.
He said the ministry had activated a multi-sectoral Incident Management System for a prompt and coordinated response to the outbreak, “with adequate resources for the management of cases and treatment.”
Dahiru urged resident to ensure they drink clear water and adhere to good personal hygiene.
