Two children are among many other people that have been killed in a fire outbreak at Nembe-Bonny Jetty Waterfront in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be known, but a source at the scene told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that many boats and goods were also destroyed in the inferno that occurred on Monday morning.
The source said a boat loaded with petroleum products caught fire which extended to other boats packed at the Jetty.
He said the cause of the fire has not been ascertained, adding that the boat was owned by dealers of illegal and adulterated petroleum products, as Nembe-Bonny Jetty Waterfront was notorious for all kinds of criminal activities such as oil bunkering and illegal trading on petroleum products.
The source said men of the fire service arrived at the scene of the incident after many boats and goods belonging to traders had been razed by fire.
The state police command is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
