The Republic of Cameroon has handed over 5,000 Nigerians to Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.
The returnees, mostly from Borno, were Nigerians that sought refuge in Cameroon during the heat of Boko haram insurgency in North east Nigeria in 2014.
In a ceremony took place at Amchiide, a border community between Nigeria and Cameroon, Cameroon’s Minister for Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji who led the Cameroonian delegation, said Cameroonian President Paul Biya had approved a big relief package to all the 5,000 returnees as support.
Zulum in his remark thanked the Cameroonian authorities for taking good care of Nigerian refugees in the last six years.
“I wish to sincerely convey our deepest appreciation to the government of Cameroon under the distinguished leadership of President Paul Biya for the enormous support to my fellow Nigerians who took refuge in the Minawao (refugee) Camp. We remain eternally grateful,” Zulum said.
