The National Caretaker and Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), headed by the Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has secured another six months extension.
The extension followed a meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and members of the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Friday morning.
Progressives Governors’ Forum Chairman, Atiku Bagudu had said last week that the proposed timetable for the Congresses and the National Convention was before President Buhari.
Bagudu, who is also the Kebbi State Governor, said Buhari has the final say as to when the party’s proposed national convention would hold.
“There is a proposal before Mr. President and once he approves it, the national caretaker committee will announce the date.
“We considered the timetable and we have made some inputs, particularly to comply with the Electoral Law and the party’s constitution. Remember, we governors are just one organ of the party,” he said.
A media aide to Buni, Mamma Mohammed, told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE on phone that the approval was given at the presidential villa this morning.
“It is true that the committee got another extension to enable it conclude its mandate and prepare the party for its National Convention.
“The president also commended the Buni-led committee for the progress so far recorded in putting the party on the right footing ahead of the convention,” he said.
Our correspondent also learnt that the committee’s timetable for the congresses was also approved at the villa meeting but the tentative date for the exercise has not been made public.

Among the reasons highlighted by our reporter why the extension was desirable include the need for the committee to conclude the membership revalidation exercise it initiated.
Other issues were the ward, local and state congresses through which delegates for the national convention are supposed to emerge; and the need to make the party’s constitutional amendment proposals available for the convention, among others.
