President Muhammadu Buhari has charged troops in the Northeast to redouble their efforts and root out insurgents from the region.
The president said this Thursday while addressing the troops at the parade ground of Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
Buhari arrived in Maiduguri at about 9:30 am on Thursday to commission some projects executed by the state Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum.
He was later received at the parade ground by Maj Gen. FO. Omogwui, the acting Theater Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, the military operation fighting insurgency in the North east.
“We should not allow our adversaries or criminal elements to undermine our sovereignty,” Buhari said.
“While I commend you, let me tell you that there is still a lot of work to be done in the North East, North West and entire country.”
In his address, General Omogwui described the visit as a “unique and morale booster” for the frontline troops.
President Buhari last travelled to Maiduguri to “sympathise” over recent Boko Haram attacks on February 12, 2020.
Before then, he visited Maiduguri on April 24, 2019, when he commissioned projects executed by the Kashim Shettima administration.
Buhari had also visited Maiduguri on November 28, 2018, to grace the quarterly chief of army staff conference.
In October 2017, the President also visited Maiduguri during Nigeria’s Independence anniversary to be with the frontline troops.
