President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday ordered the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, to end the lingering strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Buhari gave the directive during a meeting with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) involved in the ongoing efforts to end the face-off with the university unions.
The meeting was summoned by the president to get more information on why the strike had persisted for too long.
Last week in Daura, the president while hosting nine APC governors who paid him a Sallah homage warned ASUU to end their industrial action, saying enough is enough.
Buhari said, “Truly, enough is enough for keeping students at home. Don’t hurt the next generation for goodness sake.”
After Tuesday’s briefing, Buhari ordered Malam Adamu to ensure that the areas of disagreements were sorted out within two weeks and report back to him.
The President also directed that the Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige to be part of the meetings to resolve the crisis.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Boss Mustapha, it was learned, was also drafted to the team to interface with the striking unions.
