President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday ordered the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major-General Babagana Monguno (rtd) to coordinate an immediate response to the spate of bandit attacks on some communities in Zamfara State.
This came after suspected bandits stormed Nahuche village in Bungudu local government area of Zamfara state and abducted residents including women, on Thursday.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, President Buhari, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.
He said President Buhari ordered that there must be a clear path to ending the resurgent banditry that has claimed many lives in the state.
Shehu said the Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Nasir Magarya, recently wrote a letter in which he appealed to President Buhari to intervene and stop the incessant killings by bandits in the State.
He said a meeting will be conveyed soon, that will include the Minister of Defence, the Minister of Interior, Minister of Mine and Steel, and other stakeholders to deliberate on security and issues of illegal mining fueling the crisis in Zamfara State.
