Former President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned the death of former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais, who passed away at the age of 89.
In a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, condoled the family of the late jurist and Nigerians at large, saying Uwais was a man of “distinguished career as a lawyer and a judge.”
Buhari said he felt a sense of loss, recalling Uwais’ service as the head of the nation’s judiciary and his unwavering commitment to justice and democracy.
“He made notable contributions in bringing justice closer to the people.
“He was admired for his compassion and justice. He made important contributions towards making Nigeria‘s democratic fabric stronger.
“He will always be remembered by countless people for his emphasis on a meticulous approach to law as a judge and a member of the Council of States.”
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family members, relatives, and friends who are grieving his loss, as we all are,” he added.
