The All Progressives Congress (APC)- led Federal Government has been asked to lift the no-flying zone restriction imposed on Zamfara state, describing the policy as double standards.
Governors of opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made the call in a communique released after their meeting held on Friday in Makurdi, capital of Benue State.
Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who read the communique to newsmen said, the action of the federal government was selective, saying the no-flying zone restrictions was not imposed on APC states of Kaduna, Katsina, Borno, Niger, Yobe where they are equally experiencing insecurity.
“We significantly condemn the double standards that are applied by the APC-led federal government to intimidate PDP controlled states. This is mostly politically motivated to ensure that the Governors move over to APC,” Tambuwal said.
The PDP governors called for a new revenue allocation formula, saying that for more than 21 years now there has been no review upward of the existing revenue sharing formula.
They urged the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission to forward a new Revenue Allocation Formula which gives more revenue to States and Local Governments to President Muhammad Buhari for National Assembly’s action.
Tambuwal said he and his colleagues believe that now is the time for power devolution given the ongoing constitution amendment process to decentralised the security system of Nigeria.
Governors of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike; Oyo State, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde; Taraba State, Darius Dickson Ishaku and Adamawa State, Ahmed Fintiri attended the meeting.
