The immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, was brought in court on Wednesday to answer charges of alleged fraud, money laundering and misappropriation of fund amounting to N110 billion.
He was seen this morning at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja sitting before lawyers.
Contrary to reports that he drove himself to the headquarters of the EFCC, the commission said agents arrested Bello on Tuesday
His appearance in court today ended months of hide and seek game between him and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after several attempt to bring him before justice failed.
After shunning several invitations, the former governor was declared wanted in April 2024.
Between his appearance in court today and when he was declared wanted, there was attempt twice to arrest him by the EFCC operatives leading to some kind of scuffle and gun shots on the two occasions.
In the first attempt, EFCC operatives for hours condoned the former governor’s Abuja residence with a view to arresting him, but could not as Governor Ahmed Usman of Kogi state drove in and whisked bello away.
On September 19, gunshots were heard in the second attempt to arrest the former governor was made by the commission’s operatives at his Asokoro Kogi State Governor’s lodge in Abuja.
