The Rivers State House of Assembly has begun impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, presided over the plenary during which the Majority Leader, Rivers State House of Assembly, Major Jack, read out the notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the governor.
Relying on Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, Jack, freeing to Section 188 of the Nigerian constitution outlined a seven-points gross misconduct against Fubara.
The allegations Jack reeled out include the demolition of the Assembly Complex, extra budgetary spending, stopping financial allocation for the Assembly Service Commission and flouting Supreme Court order the financial autonomy of the house.
Jack laid the notice before the Speaker, after the 26 members of the State House of Assembly signed the notice.
The notice will be served to the governor in seven days.
Also, the deputy leader, Linda Stewart, also brought forward a notice of gross misconduct against the deputy governor.
The lawmakers accused the deputy governor of reckless and unconstitutional spending of public funds, preventing the House of Assembly from performing its constitutional duties in li9ne with the 1999 Constitution and conniving to allow unauthorized persons to occupy offices without proper screening by the legitimate House of Assembly.
Other allegations against the deputy governor were that she got another group of people to approve the budget instead of the legitimate Rivers State House of Assembly and seizure of salaries and allowances accruing to the RSHA and the Assembly Service Commission.
