The House of Representatives has granted President Bola Tinubu approval to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State.
The lawmakers granted the approval for the president’s proclamation through voice vote during plenary on Thursday.
They began the debate after Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read Tinubu’s letter during plenary on Thursday.
The president told the lawmakers to “expeditiously consider” his request.
On Tuesday, Tinubu imposed a state of emergency in Rivers, citing the protracted political crisis, just as he suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all House of Assembly members for six months.
Tinubu has since appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas, a retired vice-admiral and former chief of naval staff, as the administrator for the state.
