Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court over alleged plans by the commission to disqualify him from the All Progressives Congress ((APC) presidential primaries scheduled later in the month.
Mr Emefiele filed the suit before a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Also joined in the suit is the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
INEC has given political parties June 3 deadline to submit their candidates for the 2023 elections.
According to the court documents obtained by this newspaper on Monday, the CBN governor through his counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, argued that he is more or less a civil servant and by provision of the constitution, he is expected to resign a month before the February 25, 2023, presidential election.
Emefiele said he would decide on his presidential ambition in the next few days after his associates and farmers purchased a N100 million nomination form of the APC on Friday.
The development triggered outburst from the opposition and civil society groups urging him to resign before contesting the presidential elections.
