The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally expelled Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose, and former Secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu.
The decision was reached at the ongoing national convention of the party taking place in Ibadan, Oyo state.
The motion for the expulsion of the embattled party chieftains was moved by the former PDP National Vice Chairman (South), Chief Bode George.
The motion was seconded by the Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi state, Samaila Burga.
Other chieftains expelled by the convention include Umar Bature, Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN), Mohammed Abdulrahman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Austine Nwachukwu, Abraham Amah, George Turner, and Chief Dan Orbih.
The motion read thus: “Whereas by Articles 33(2) (1), (2) ®) (n) & (r) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Constitution 2017 (as amended), the National Convention of the Party shall have supremacy in all matters pertaining to the Party and all officers and organs of the Party including matters of discipline of officers and members;
“Whereas it is important to underscore the fundamental principles that a political party is a voluntary organization and members are expected to join it out of their volition as allowed by Section 40 of the Constitution of the FRN 1999 (as amended) and are to be bound by its fundamental principles and aspirations as expressed in its Constitution;
“Whereas the persons mentioned above have committed various breaches of the Party’s Constitution including supporting and canvassing votes for opposition.”
Mr Wike loyalists had earlier tried to stop the convention through the court, but failed after the party secured a judgement at a High Court in Oyo to make the convention hold.
Also, few days to the convention, chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Wike-led faction, Mao Ohabunwa, said the Ibadan convention is a waste of time because it would not be recognized by law.
