The federal government on Friday indefinitely suspended Twitter operations in Nigeria.
Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the suspension in a statement in Abuja.
The microblogging and social networking service has been at loggerheads with the federal government after it deleted a post from official handle of President Muhammadu Buhari referencing the Biafra Civil War that claimed millions of lives of mostly Igbo.
The minister cited the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.
Mr Mohammed said federal government has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to begin licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria.
