Bandits have kidnapped the Commissioner of Information in Nasarawa State, Muhammad Lawal Yakubu.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that commissioner was seized in his hometown of Nasarawa Eggon on Monday around 8 pm.
A family member of the commissioner, Abdullahi Umar Galle, has confirmed the abduction in a short statement Monday night.
He said the assailants took away Mr Lawal some 100 meters away from his residence after firing some shots.
It was not clear whether the commissioner was wounded during the attack.
The statement said, “The family of Alh. Yakubu A. Umbugadu (Madakin Galle) hereby confirmed the kidnapping of Hon. Muhammad Lawal Yakubu, Honorable Commissioner of Information in Nasarawa State.
“Mr Lawal was attacked by the Kidnappers 100 meters away from his residence,” he said.
He added that “The commissioner was driving home around 8 p.m. when the incident happened.
“His car was parked off the road heading to the bush and It appears he was forced out of his it.”
Mr Galle said there were traces of bullets in his compound and one of them hit the house.
He said the kidnappers cut off the light source that supplies the house during the operation.
“The neighbours said they heard gunshots coming from all directions. It was a smart approach to scare people against resistance,” the statement said.
Mr Galle said the abductors were yet to establish any communication with the family.
