The Commandant- General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, has resigned.
The cleric’s resignation is coming hours after the Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, made some scathing remarks on the activities of the morality police in the state.
Sheikh Daurawa announced his resignation on his Facebook page Friday morning, saying he tried his best to tame immorality TikTokers but to no avail.
The former morality police chief made the post from Kaduna, where he was attending a retreat organized by the state assembly.
He apologized to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over the issue and some comments made by the Governor regarding his work.
The governor warned Hisbah against arresting youngsters, heeding them into vehicles and detaining them.
Sheikh Daurawa’s Hisbah came to the limelight when it arrested a prominent Tiktoker and NNPP supporter, Murja Ibrahim Kunya over alleged immoral behavior on the social media.
Hisbah arraigned her before a Sharia Court, and she was subsequently remanded in prison custody. However, Murja was secretly released in a controversial manner on the orders of some Kano state government officials without the knowledge of the Hisbah or the judge.
Sheikh Daurawa was reappointed for the third term by Governor Yusuf as Hisbah chief on July 11, 2023.
He had served two terms during the administration of former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the first tenure of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
