Kaduna Staten University (KASU) Management on Tuesday shut down all undergraduate courses indefinitely over students protests.
This was disclosed this in a statement by the university Registrar, Samuel S. Manshop, in Kaduna.
The university’s decision came after several protests by students of the institution over hike in the university’s tuition.
“The Management of Kaduna State University wishes to notify Staff, Students, and the general public that academic activities for undergraduate students have been suspended indefinitely,” the statement said.
“Postgraduate programmes, College of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Part-Time programmes are to continue with their activities.”
The statement also directed staff to report to work as usual as Management will communicate any development to them soon.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE observed that students of the institution on Tuesday stormed the State Assembly protesting against the tuition fee hike in the state.
The protesting students called on the lawmakers to intervene by convincing the state government to reverse the fee increment.
“Yes we are going there to beg the lawmakers to help compel on the governor to reduce the schools increment,” a student who doesn’t want to be named said.
This newspaper gathered that the lawmakers were inside the assembly sitting when the students arrived.
Security agencies were also sighted at the venue of the protest as motorists were forced to divert to alternative routes.
