The Federal Government has relocated the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization Afaka, Kaduna, where bandits abducted 37 students from their dormitories.
The college provost, Dr Usman M. Bello, said Monday that the Federal Ministry of Environment has concluded plans to temporarily relocate the college to a safer place with adequate security.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE recalled that bandits raided the college on the night of March 11, 2021, abducting 37 students.
The students were released from captivity in three batches after payment of N32 million ransom and the release of a bandit kingpin from police custody.
Speaking at a news briefing, Dr Bello said the new site will be announced to the parents as soon as the arrangement is completed.
He said vehicles will be provided to shuttle staff and students alike from the temporary site to designated bus stops within the Kaduna metropolis to ease logistic challenges.
He said the Minister of Environment has directed that the school fees of the affected students be waived for the programmes they are currently running. Therefore, for those of them presently on National Diploma (ND) programmes and the Higher National Diploma fees would be waived accordingly.
The provost said research and other work will be done at the college’s old site Mando since the relocation is temporary.
