The National Industrial Court has ordered the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to suspend its strike “with immediate effect.”
This is coming after the Federal Government and the resident doctors again have failed to reach an agreement to put an end to the nationwide industrial action that has grounded the health sector.
The doctors began the strike on August 1 over “irregular payment of salaries,” among others.
The much-awaited talks to resolve the issues that led to the strike that is in its second month did not hold.
The National Industrial Court had on Wednesday stood down the case to allow for an out of court resolution between the doctors and the federal government.
The Federal Government had dragged NARD to court, praying for an order of interlocutory injunction restraining the association members from continuing with the industrial action.
During the court session on Friday, counsel to the federal government, Tochukwu Maduka, prayed the court for an order directing the doctors to suspend the strike pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
