Three hundred and twenty-three people were killed and 949 were abducted in the last three months in Kaduna State due to banditry, violent attacks and communal violence.
This was announced in a report presented by Governor Nasir El-Rufai during the meeting of the Kaduna State Security Council on Friday.
Also, 244 people were wounded and 3,289 cattle were rustled across the state in the last 90 days.
The report, entitled The Security Situation in Kaduna State for the First Quarter of 2021 (January 1 to March 31), was prepared by the state’s Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs headed by Mr Samuel Aruwan.
292 of the total deaths during the period under review were males, the report says.
The report states that 236 (73%) of the deaths were recorded in Kaduna Central Senatorial District. Of the deceased, only 20 were women and 11 under the age of 18.
All the deaths occurred in Birnin Gwari (77), Giwa (42), Igabi (45), Chikun (52), and Kajuru (20) local government areas of the zone. Kaduna North and Kaduna South LGAs recorded zero deaths.
Southern Kaduna Senatorial District had 68 of the total deaths recorded during the period. The killings occurred in Kauru (28), Zangon Kataf (14), and Kagarko (12). Of the deceased, five were women and two below the age of 18.
The Northern Senatorial Zone has the least fatalities totaling 19. Zaria has the largest casualty of six.
On kidnapping, the Kaduna central zone had the largest figures of 782 (82%) of the total; it is followed by Southern Kaduna zone 129; and Northern Kaduna Zone 38.
