The federal government has granted approval for the establishment of a federal polytechnic in Monguno, Borno State, 45 years after the creation of the state.
Until the approval, Borno was one of the few states that had neither a federal polytechnic nor college of education.
Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Umara Zulum, while on a visit to the minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu in Abuja, on Monday, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari and the minister for granting the approval and for his compassion towards Borno.
Zulum, a former rector of state-owned Ramat Polytechnic, said the siting of the polytechnic in Borno was particularly significant as the town, though one of the most populated in the state, was educationally backward.
The minister, who received the governor and members of his entourage at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, informed him that in addition to the federal polytechnic, Borno was soon to have a federal college of education as it is in most of the 36 states.
