Kaduna State Governor Nasiru el-Rufa’i’s claims in a Channels television interview on Wednesday that President Buhari and 19 APC governors got together to remove Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni as Chairman of the party’s Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee took a big hit on Thursday when a letter surfaced claiming that Buni handed over on February 28th before he travelled to Dubai.
Buni’s letter, addressed to his Niger State counterpart Abubakar Sani Bello, all members of the CECPC and copied to INEC, was titled “Transmission of Office of National Chairman, CECPC.”
He informed them that he was embarking on a medical trip to Dubai from February 28 and will resume duties after his discharge from the hospital.
In his absence, Buni said he was transmitting the functions of his office as CECPC Chairman to Bello and urged him to conclude all arrangements leading to the national convention scheduled for March 26.
Reactions of Governors Sani Bello and Nasiru el-Rufa’i to the letter are being awaited. If indeed such a letter was written, it debunks claims made that Buni was removed with President Buhari’s approval and Bello was installed in his place.
