Ten soldiers, including a unit commander, were killed and many others injured when Boko Haram fighters ambushed a military convoy along Monguno-Maiduguri road in Borno State.
A military source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the incident happened early Thursday morning.
He said the convoy was moving some equipment and personnel to a super camp to the military command and control centre in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
The source said the insurgent planted some improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the road over the night, knowing that the troops would be traveling along that road by morning.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that more than a thousand Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters surrendered to the Nigerian military.
Army spokesperson, Brig.-General Onyema Nwachukwu, is yet to issue an official statement on the development.
