Boko Haram fighters have attacked a Nigerian military base at Katarko in Gujba local government area of Yobe State.
This is the third time the community has been attacked by the insurgents this year.
Katarko is located 20 kilometers South-East of Damaturu, the state capital.
A security source told 21st CENTURY CHRONICLE that the insurgents invaded in Katarko villages and engaged soldiers in gun battle at their base.
The attack forced residents to run into the nearby bushes for safety.
The source said the soldiers overpowered the insurgents and they flee the base.
However, Nigeria Air Force says it has intensified onslaught against Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in localities around the Lake Chad area.
Over one million people have been killed and 3 million people displaced in the 12-year-old war between the insurgents and the military.
