Security sources said the passengers travelling inside commercial vehicles were waylaid by the militants Thursday afternoon, herding majority of them to the forest.
The travellers were were abducted at Garin-Kuturu near Auno, Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The insurgents set blaze some of the vehicles.
Security forces, it was gathered, later mobilised to the scene, engaged the militants and rescued some stranded passengers.
