Thirty people, most of them female students, have been killed and 50 others injured in a blast that occurred on Saturday in Shia district, west of the capital, Kabul.
The attack took place in a neighbourhood frequently attacked by ISIL fighters over the years.
Spokesperson of Afghan interior ministry, Tariq Arian, disclosed this on Saturday.
Although, Arian didn’t specify the cause or the target of the explosion, he said those wounded were evacuated by ambulances from the scene and taken to hospital.
Kabul is on high alert since Washington announced plans last month to pull out all US troops by September 11.
Spokesman for the health ministry,
Ghulam Dastagir Nazari, said 46 people had been taken to hospitals so far.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, in a statement, condemned the attack, blaming the Taliban for the attack.
Afghan officials had said the Taliban had stepped up its attacks across the country, since the U.S announced withdrawal of troops from the country.
But the group also condemned the Saturday attack, apparently aimed at civilians, and denied any responsibility.
