Two of the prime suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Usman Buda, a Sokoto butcher, were reportedly arrested by the police.
Buda was lynched about one month ago over alleged blaspheming of the Holy Prophet (SAW).
The arrest came after some Muslims clerics accused the police for keeping mute on the matter.
A cleric in the state, Sheikh Musa Lukwa, had earlier accused the police of not making arrest few weeks after the murder.
“And we learnt that, the murderers were still coming to the abattoir for their daily business, some of them were even bragging that nothing will be done to them,” he said.
A police officer privy to the arrest said it was made by a special squad sent from Abuja.
He said, “After the investigation, the suspects will be brought to Sokoto for prosecution.
“So it is not that, the police are not doing anything about it.”
