President-elect Joe Biden has announced a career diplomat William J. Burns to run the CIA that has been badly battered by the Donald Trump administration.
Burns has served both parties and won respect at home and abroad. His choice by Biden is seen as a major personal decision and highlights the qualities that characterize Biden’s foreign policy team.
Burns, an inside player, is described in Biden’s 2019 memoir, as “brainy, reserved, collegial, and loyal to his superiors, sometimes to a fault.”
