Niger’s newly elected President Mohamed Bazoum was on Friday sworn in as a democratic elected president.
The inauguration came after Wednesday coup attempt led by an air force officer.
The inauguration on Friday marks the first-ever transition between elected presidents in Niger’s six decades of independence from France, a historic moment that has been widely praised.
60-year-old Bazoum was a former interior minister and close associate of outgoing President Mahamadou Issoufou, who has voluntarily stepped down after two five-year terms.
