The interim injunction handed down by Justice Gbasam of the Degema Judicial Division vacation court of the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt last Monday, restraining Prince Uche Secondus from parading himself as National Chairman and member of the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] get as e be.
It was an ex parte order, meaning Secondus’ side of the story was not heard. Several Chief Justices of Nigeria [CJNs] said over the years that courts should only do that where events could create an irreversible situation. To restrain a man elected at a party convention from “parading himself” as party chairman when he had been doing so unchallenged for nearly three years already get as e be.
Nor is it nice that this order came out of Rivers State, whose governor Nyesom Wike, known for his do-or-die politics, is fighting tooth and nail to get Secondus out of the chairman’s seat ahead of the party convention scheduled for October.
Courts, don’t blame citizens for putting two and two together.
