Residents in Kano state have expressed fear over the upcoming planned Sallah durbar by the two parties involved in the state’s emirate tussle.
Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, through a formal letter to the Kano state police command, has indicated his intention to hold the traditional Sallah Durbar during the upcoming Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
This is coming days after Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf directed Emir Sanusi to began preparation for the durbar.
Bayero’s letter signed by his Private Secretary, Abdullahi Haruna, was addressed to the commissioner of police with lined-up activities for the durbar.
In the letter, lined-up activities include the Hawan Sallah, Hawan Daushe, and Hawan Nassarawa on the 2nd and 3rd days of Shawwal 1446 AH are lined up, followed by a cultural celebration on the fourth day.
Similarly, the letter also highlighted that this year’s durbar holds special significance as it marks Bayero’s five-year anniversary on the throne as emir of Kano. It was also reported that ever since the emirship tussle set-in, Sallah durbar didn’t take place in the state due to the fear of what may transpire between loyalists of both parties involved.
Many residents have expressed concern on the turn of things in Kano. According to a 78-year-old resident, Kano is experiencing a worst scenarios that can probably plunge the state into a situation that no one is praying for.
“This is uncalled for, why are they treating things like this, durbar or no durbar Kano remains. Let authorities concern take note that it is their duty to protect people’s lives and properties. They should prevent the preventable and allow peace to reign in the state,” he said.
