The Bauchi emirate council has withdrawn the traditional title of the senator representing the southern constituency of the state Shehu Buba.
Buba, who belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC), was accused of “disobeying and disrespecting” the governor.
The senator had criticised the policies of Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi, at the flag-off of the APC local government campaign in the state.
He said the governor had worsened the poverty index in Bauchi, even as he pointed out the need to ensure the accountability of resources allocated to states.
He also accused the governor of failing to distribute palliatives to the people.
“This hardship in Bauchi is caused by the Bala Mohammed-led government. It is a one-man government,” he said.
“I’m repeating it. It’s a government that is very corrupt. Look at all the ministries. Nothing is happening.”
In a letter addressed to Buba and signed by Nasiru Musa, on behalf of the secretary of the council, the emirate said the senator’s remarks were contrary to the “conduct and traditions of the Bauchi emirate.”
“At the meeting of the Bauchi emirate council held today, 14/8/2024, under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Emir of Bauchi, a thorough review was conducted regarding the recent acts of disobedience and disrespect towards His excellency the governor of Bauchi State, which is contrary to the conduct and traditions of the Bauchi emirate,” the emirate said.
“For this reason, the council has withdrawn the title of Mujaddadin Bauchi previously conferred upon you,” the letter read.
