Residents of the ancient city of Zaria awoke in shock on Saturday morning following the killing of five residents by suspected bandits in the area.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE has learned that six other residents sustained gunshot injuries and are in critical condition, receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The incident occurred around 10:00 PM on Friday night when the bandits arrived the Unguwar Dankali area of the city to commit abductions.
Local sources in the area reported that those killed were sitting at a joint when the attackers shot at them unprovoked.
A resident who wished to remain anonymous said that most of the victims were his neighbors.
According to him, the attackers also abducted about six other residents, with most of them being housewives.
“Yes, five dead, six injured, and rushed to the hospital for treatment because they are in critical condition. Housewives were among the six persons taken away by the bandits,” he said.
He described the situation as very terrible, saying that the security agencies arrived later, but by then, the attackers had already left the area.
Another resident of the area, Multala, posted pictures of the victims on his Facebook page, noting that most of the residents couldn’t sleep last night following the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, there were no official statements yet from the government and the Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson , ASP Mansir Hassan, could not be reached by phone, and he has not responded to the WhatsApp message sent to him seeking his reaction.
