A Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet has been shot down by bandits during an air operation between Zamfara and Kaduna States.
Spokesman of NAF, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, confirmed the incident on Monday.
He said the aircraft was attacked on Sunday while returning from an air operation between the boundaries of Zamfara and Kaduna States.
Gabkwet said the pilots and all other occupants in the aircraft were safe, adding that the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Abayomi Dairo, successfully ejected from the aircraft.
”Using his survival instincts, the pilot, who came under intense ground fire from the bandits, was able to evade them and sought refuge in nearby settlements awaiting sunset,” he said.
