Bandits have burnt down a police outpost and operational vehicle in Zugu village of Bukkuyum local government area Thursday evening.
Some private houses were also razed by the bandits who operated for over an hour.
Abdullahi Halilu Bukkuyum, a resident, said the bandits were en route to launch an attack on villages in western part of Zugu.
“They were going to attack villages like Karaye, Barikin Ladi, Loli and other villages but because they knew the policemen stationed there could hamper their operations, they decided to attack them first,” he said.
According to him none of the policemen were wounded but their residents were severely wounded by fire when their houses were burnt down.
Abdullahi, however, said the arrival of soldiers forced the bandits to retreat back into Gando forest.
Police public relations officer in Zamfara state, Mohammed Shehu said he was not officially briefed of the development.
