Bandits have returned to Abuja-Kaduna highway, kidnapping a pregnant woman and her teenage daughter in Akilibu community.
The last known attack on this highway was on July 22, 2022, when terrorists attacked a military checkpoint, killing a captain and some other soldiers.
The latest incident happened around 8:30 pm on Saturday where the attackers stromed the victim’s house with the intention of abducting the head of the family. They seized his pregnant wife and his daughter as they could not reach him.
Typical of their style, the invaders shot sporadically to wade off any intruder
An anonymous resident who identified the kidnapped woman as Adama revealed they first took four of her children but later freed three.
“We couldn’t sleep because of the gunshots. They (bandits) came to the village around 8:30pm when people were still awake. They went straight to the man’s house who is a local farm manager but he was not at home at the time.”
Another resident Ashir Akilibu said the bandits struck by surprise because they disguised as security personnel, adding that locals mistook them for the soldiers and police who frequent the village on patrol.
Kaduna State Police spokesperson DSP Mohammed Jalige has not responded to enquiries as at the time of filling this report.
